'Golden Light at the Swim Hole - the Never Never'

Medium: Oil on board, carved
Dimensions: 112 x 183cm
Year: 2022

Artist: Coco Elder

"A well known vista framed by tree ferns and water gums where the flow of the river picks up speed as the rapids turn the bend in the river.
Dusk casts a golden glow through the forest as the last bit of light is captured and reflected in the water".

This exhibition has been inspired by the Promised Land in Bellingen. This area is Gumbaynggirr country which I acknowledge with great respect. It starts in Glenifer and is renowned for the Never Never River whose water flows down from the great waterfalls of Dorrigo Mountain.

The Promised Land is considered the land of ‘milk and honey’. The soil is rich and the trees are grand and monumental. On experiencing this place, I always feel like I am entering a fairytale. The aesthetic & beauty of this place is magic, and that is what I have aimed to capture in my paintings.
