Oil on canvas Why paint an abstracted landscape? The creation of an impression of vastness on a board or canvas has always obsessed artists. The intangible quality that I love about painting often makes it a self-contradictory pursuit. Its not so much about pictorial representation but more about a process of translation through the powerful language of paint. I so often walk by the harbour or the ocean, especially late in the day when the water changes colour in a moment, reflecting the glories of the sky. And the repetition of the mooring posts and the jetties jutting into the water, forming patterns and rhythms, that somehow flow into my head. Nothing remains static, everything is in constant motion. The final interpretation must remain with the viewer.
