Homage to Banksia Robur

oil on board carved This painting honours the Swamp Banksia – also known as Banksia robur. The outside of the flower showcases vibrant and rich emerald greens, but alongside the vertical like pathways of these green hardy columns are little glimpses into corridors of complimentary reds and pinks displayed in a whirling array of anthers at the top of the flower. This particular species is growing in my garden having been inspired to plant this species from observing them at Salvation Creek in Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park. The leaves are quite large with pointy tips and envelop the flower. Along side the new growth is the older banksia whose filaments have given way. I see the beauty in both the old and new.
